Equine Acupressure

Supporting Whole-Body Wellness Through Gentle, Effective Therapy

Equine Acupressure is a gentle therapy originating from Classical East Asian Medicine, similar to Acupuncture but with the use of fingertip pressure rather than needles. Acupressure points are stimulated on the surface of the body along energy channels known as Meridians, balancing the body to aid both physical and mental wellbeing.

Acupressure is a great modality for helping any horse stay fit and well mentally and physically, and has shown especially good results in helping manage the following conditions when used alongside (never replacing!) veterinary care:

  • Arthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Skin conditions
  • Poor hoof quality
  • Hormone imbalances (e.g. mareish behaviour)
  • Head shaking
  • Behavioural issues such as anxiety, separation anxiety, aggression, or depression

Sue is a graduate of Elemental Acupressure which specialises in a branch of Classical East Asian Medicine known as 5 Element Theory. Training with EA consisted of over 2 years intense study, a final exam and a further 6 months completing case studies and video evidence of her work.

Although Classical Chinese Medicine is the most widely known eastern medicine system, there is also a lot of knowledge from both Japan and Korea that is passed on to Elemental Acupressure students. As part of her studies Sue was taught Shiatsu massage , a Japanese form of physiotherapy that follows the same principles as Acupressure. She is a UK Elemental Acupressure Ambassador and is continuing her learning journey with them including developing her skills using the Teishin tool.

Teishin Acupressure

Originating in Japan, the teishin is a gentle and effective tool for treating patients without inserting acupuncture needles or penetrating the skin. In our experience here at QiEquine, we are finding that it further increases the effectiveness of our acupressure sessions, particularly when dealing with musculoskeletal issues.
